BIOGRAPHY

D.C. MOON, both the band and the man, has developed into quite the cult status among those that follow the more off-beat sounds of metal and punk in the Southeast.

Formed by Moon and drummer David Standifer back in 1990, the band released several tapes and played concerts, clubs and basements throughout the small punk circuit in the South developing a reputation for their intense live performances and unusual subject matter in their songs. From the sci-fi fueled tunes of "Colossal Man" and "Kings of Sleep" to the in-your-face fury of "New Dark Age" and "When California Falls," audiences and critics soon spread the word-of-mouth that this was one band not to be missed.

Joined by bassist Ricky Lee, the trio released their first CD, THE METEOR TITANIC, to rave reviews. "A stellar reminder of how much fun American punk rock can be," said Atlanta's Creative Loafing. "A rough-edged talent with guts and imagination." - R Squared. "Although no one does it quite as good as the Ramones (never have, never will) D.C. Moon comes close. I love this band!," said Spectrum Magazine.

Aiding the band is noted novelist, lyricist and screenwriter John Shirley. The band met John at a science-fiction convention where they were the opening act for GWAR. "John has been in bands for years and has written some great lyrics for BLUE OYSTER CULT, who are one of my favorite bands, "says Moon. "He liked our stuff and saw how warped we were and gave us some of his really cool lyrics to work with." Best known as the script writer for The Crow, John and D.C.'s collaborations "Hunting Humans" and "The Flies" are included on THE UNCERTAINTY PRINCIPLE.

Also performing with the group are the lovely Celesta Riner on vocals and Warren Eckstein on guitar. "Having a second guitar gives me a lot more freedom, not only in performing, but also in the types of songs to write. Warren's as crazy as the rest of us so he fits right in!" Celesta's vocals can be heard on "RARR!" on "They're Coming After You" "Celesta is a fine singer and a great performer," says Moon. "But it is hard to treat her just like 'one of the boys' on the road!"

The newest member of the group on vocals is Sandra Hunt. A long time fan of the group with an outstanding voice and stage presence, Sandra sings backing vocals and is responsible for the "dinosaur wrangling" during Mokele-Mbembe.

When they are not together making music, the band members have a variety of interests. David hosts The Metal Zone on the local college radio station, WVUA, and creates award-winning fine art prints. Ricky enjoys spending time with his daughter Kelsey. He also likes cooking and zombie movies! Warren spends his time in the NOC at Vanderbilt University where he trolls for souls. Celesta enjoys reading and writing poetry and all kinds of music. She also has a evening radio show on WVUA. Sandra holds down three jobs when not enjoying all kinds of live music! D.C. enjoys reading, films and travel. "I even like the road," he claims.
